Microsoft 365 Business Premium is Microsoft's productivity and security plan for organisations of 1 to 300 users. It contains everything in Microsoft 365 Business Standard and adds four security products: Microsoft Defender for Business for devices, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 for email and files, Microsoft Entra ID P1 for identity and Conditional Access, and Microsoft Intune Plan 1 for device and app management. It also carries Microsoft Purview Information Protection and data loss prevention. This edition includes Microsoft Teams. The 300 user ceiling is a hard limit on the plan, not a guideline, so organisations that expect to pass it should look at the enterprise plans instead.
What it is
Microsoft 365 Business Premium is the top plan in Microsoft's small and medium business range. It contains everything in Microsoft 365 Business Standard, and adds identity, device and threat protection that the lower Business plans do not carry.
Who it is for
Organisations of up to 300 users that want productivity, identity control and endpoint security under one licence rather than assembled from separate products. Above 300 users the plan is not available and the Microsoft 365 enterprise range applies instead.

What is not included
Defender for Endpoint Plan 1 and Plan 2 are not part of Business Premium. The endpoint component is Defender for Business, which is built on Defender for Endpoint and carries most, not all, of Plan 2's capability. Either Defender for Endpoint plan can be added separately if a specific Plan 2 feature is required.

The plan is limited to a maximum of 300 users.
How many users can Microsoft 365 Business Premium cover?
Up to 300. This is a firm ceiling on the plan. Organisations above 300 users need a Microsoft 365 enterprise plan such as E3 or E5.
What does Business Premium add over Microsoft 365 Business Standard?
Business Premium contains everything in Business Standard and adds Microsoft Defender for Business, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1, Microsoft Entra ID P1 and Microsoft Intune Plan 1, plus Microsoft Purview information protection and data loss prevention.
Does Business Premium include Microsoft Defender for Endpoint?
No. The endpoint component is Microsoft Defender for Business, which is built on Defender for Endpoint and includes endpoint detection and response. Defender for Endpoint Plan 1 or Plan 2 can be added as a separate licence where a specific Plan 2 capability is needed.
Does this plan include Microsoft Teams?
Yes. This is the edition that includes Teams. A separate edition without Teams also exists, and since 1 November 2025 both are available to new customers in the European Economic Area.
Does Business Premium cover Conditional Access?
Yes. Microsoft Entra ID P1 is included, and Conditional Access is a Microsoft Entra ID P1 capability. Risk-based Conditional Access is not included, because it depends on Microsoft Entra ID Protection, which is a P2 feature.
