Microsoft 365 E5 EEA (no Teams)

This is Microsoft 365 E5 with Microsoft Teams removed from the bundle, sold to customers in the European Economic Area. The security and compliance layer is unchanged: Microsoft Entra ID P2 with Privileged Identity Management and Identity Protection, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 with endpoint detection and response, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2, Microsoft Intune Plan 1 and Plan 2, and the advanced Microsoft Purview compliance products. Teams is licensed separately through Microsoft Teams EEA. Since 1 November 2025 the edition that includes Teams is available again to new customers, so this is now a choice rather than an obligation.

What it is

Microsoft 365 E5 EEA (no Teams) is the same plan as Microsoft 365 E5 with Microsoft Teams excluded from the licence. Nothing in the security, identity, endpoint or compliance layer differs between the two editions.

Who it is for

European Economic Area organisations that want the full E5 security and compliance capability and either run a different collaboration platform or prefer to license Teams on its own line.

Key capabilities

  • Everything in Microsoft 365 E3 EEA (no Teams)
  • Microsoft Entra ID P2: Privileged Identity Management, Identity Protection, risk-based Conditional Access, access reviews, entitlement management
  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 2: endpoint detection and response, automated investigation and remediation, threat and vulnerability management
  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2
  • Microsoft Intune Plan 1 and Plan 2
  • Advanced Microsoft Purview: Insider Risk Management, Communication Compliance, Advanced Audit, eDiscovery that can search and delete
  • Microsoft Teams licensed separately

Which edition to choose

The requirement to use no Teams editions for net-new EEA subscriptions ran from 1 October 2023 to 31 October 2025. Microsoft reintroduced the suites with Teams globally on 1 November 2025 under its commitments to the European Commission, and both editions are now available to new and existing customers. Choose this one when Teams is not the collaboration platform, or when it should be assigned to only part of the workforce.

Requirements

Teams, if needed, is bought as Microsoft Teams EEA and assigned alongside this licence. Price that line into any comparison against the bundled edition.

FAQ
Is this edition still mandatory for new EEA customers?

No. That was true between 1 October 2023 and 31 October 2025. Microsoft reintroduced the suites with Teams globally on 1 November 2025, so a new EEA customer may buy either edition.

What is different from standard Microsoft 365 E5?

Only Microsoft Teams. Entra ID P2, Defender for Endpoint Plan 2, Defender for Office 365 Plan 2, Intune Plan 1 and Plan 2 and the advanced Purview products are identical across both editions.

Does this include endpoint detection and response?

Yes. E5 carries Defender for Endpoint Plan 2, which includes endpoint detection and response, automated investigation and remediation, threat and vulnerability management, and advanced hunting over six months of retained data.

How do users get Teams on this plan?

Through a separate Microsoft Teams EEA licence assigned alongside this one. It is an additional line on the subscription rather than a change to this plan.

Does it include Privileged Identity Management?

Yes. Microsoft Entra ID P2 is part of E5, and Privileged Identity Management is a P2 capability, along with Identity Protection, risk-based Conditional Access, access reviews and entitlement management.
