Microsoft Teams EEA is the standalone Microsoft Teams licence for enterprise customers in the European Economic Area. It carries Teams itself: chat, channels, audio and video calling, online meetings, and file sharing and collaboration. Its normal role is to sit next to a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 enterprise plan bought in a no Teams edition, so that the two together give the same coverage as the bundled plan. Microsoft records it as Microsoft Teams Enterprise EEA. Small and medium organisations on the Microsoft 365 Business plans usually do not need it, because those plans are sold in editions both with and without Teams.
What it is
Microsoft Teams EEA is the standalone Teams subscription for the European Economic Area. Microsoft lists it under the product name Microsoft Teams Enterprise EEA. It is the licence that restores Teams alongside an enterprise suite bought without it.
Who it is for
Organisations in the EEA running a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 enterprise plan in a no Teams edition, such as Microsoft 365 E3 EEA (no Teams) or Microsoft 365 E5 EEA (no Teams), that need Teams for some or all of those users.

What is not included
Dial-in Audio Conferencing and telephone calling over the public network are not part of this licence. Audio Conferencing is a separate add-on, and calling to and from telephone numbers requires Teams Phone together with a calling plan or another connectivity option.
When it is not the right licence
The Microsoft 365 Business plans, which cover up to 300 users, are sold in editions both with and without Teams. An organisation on those plans normally chooses the edition it wants rather than adding this enterprise standalone licence.
What is Microsoft Teams EEA for?
It is the standalone Teams licence for the European Economic Area. It is assigned alongside a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 enterprise plan bought in a no Teams edition, so the pair covers the same ground as the bundled plan.
Do I still need it now that the suites with Teams are back?
Not necessarily. Since 1 November 2025 the Microsoft 365 and Office 365 enterprise suites that include Teams are available again to new and existing customers, so buying a bundled plan is an alternative to pairing a no Teams plan with this licence.
Does this licence include telephone calling?
No. It covers calling and meetings inside Teams. Calling to and from telephone numbers requires Teams Phone with a calling plan or other connectivity, and dial-in Audio Conferencing is a separate add-on.
Do small businesses need this licence?
Usually not. The Microsoft 365 Business plans for up to 300 users are sold in editions with and without Teams, so the choice is made when picking the plan rather than by adding this licence.
