Microsoft 365 E5 (no Teams)
This is Microsoft 365 E5 with Microsoft Teams removed, from the worldwide no Teams lineup rather than the EEA-specific one. The distinction matters only for which SKU a quote should carry; the capability is the same. Everything in E5 is present: Microsoft Entra ID P2 with Identity Protection and Privileged Identity Management, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 with endpoint detection and response, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2, Microsoft Intune Plan 1 and Plan 2, and the advanced Microsoft Purview compliance products. Teams, if needed, is licensed separately as Microsoft Teams Enterprise or Microsoft Teams EEA.
What it is
Microsoft 365 E5 (no Teams) is part of the lineup of Microsoft 365 and Office 365 suites that do not include Teams, introduced worldwide on 1 April 2024. It is not the same SKU as Microsoft 365 E5 EEA (no Teams), which came from the earlier 2023 European change, but the capability is identical.
Who it is for
Organisations that want the full E5 security and compliance layer and either run a different collaboration platform or prefer to license Teams on its own line.

Which no Teams SKU to buy
There are two, and they are not interchangeable on an order. Microsoft 365 E5 (no Teams) is the worldwide lineup. Microsoft 365 E5 EEA (no Teams) is the European Economic Area SKU. The Teams companion differs the same way: Microsoft Teams Enterprise pairs with the worldwide suites, Microsoft Teams EEA with the EEA ones. Check which family a quote is on before it is placed.
Is a no Teams suite still necessary
No. The rule that forced net-new customers onto the no Teams suites was lifted on 1 November 2025, when Microsoft reintroduced the suites with Teams globally under its commitments to the European Commission. Both are available, so this is a choice.
How is this different from Microsoft 365 E5 EEA (no Teams)?
In capability, it is not. They are two SKUs from two different changes: the EEA one from the 2023 European change and this one from the worldwide lineup introduced on 1 April 2024. The difference matters for which SKU an order carries.
Which Teams licence pairs with it?
Microsoft Teams Enterprise pairs with the worldwide no Teams suites; Microsoft Teams EEA pairs with the EEA ones. Match the family rather than mixing them on one order.
Do I still have to buy a no Teams suite?
No. The requirement was lifted on 1 November 2025 when Microsoft reintroduced the suites with Teams globally. Both are available to new and existing customers.
Does it include endpoint detection and response?
Yes. E5 carries Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 in every edition, which includes endpoint detection and response, automated investigation and remediation, and six months of data for advanced hunting.
What does the compliance half include?
Insider Risk Management, Communication Compliance, Advanced Audit with extended retention, eDiscovery that can search and delete, and automatic retention labels.
