This is the two Business Premium add-ons in one line: the Defender Suite, which brings Microsoft Entra ID P2 and therefore Identity Protection, risk-based Conditional Access and Privileged Identity Management, and the Purview Suite, which brings Microsoft Purview Audit (Premium) with up to one year of audit log retention including Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions. The same two conditions apply as to each half separately: a Microsoft 365 Business Premium base licence on the same user, and a 300 seat cap. Take it when both the identity and the compliance gap need closing; take one half alone when only one does.
What it is
A combined add-on carrying both the Microsoft Defender Suite and the Microsoft Purview Suite for Microsoft 365 Business Premium. It is the security and compliance step up for a Business Premium tenant that is not moving to an enterprise plan.
Who it is for
Organisations of up to 300 users that need both halves: risk-based identity controls, and audit and compliance evidence. Under EU operational resilience obligations those two usually arrive together, which is why the combined line exists.
What each half brings
Defender Suite. Microsoft Entra ID P2, and with it Microsoft Entra ID Protection, risk-based Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management, access reviews and entitlement management. Business Premium alone carries Entra ID P1 and none of those.
Purview Suite. Microsoft Purview Audit (Premium): up to one year of audit log retention, custom audit retention policies, access to crucial events for investigations, and audit coverage of Microsoft 365 Copilot interactions.
What Business Premium already had
Microsoft 365 Apps, Microsoft Entra ID P1, Microsoft Intune Plan 1, Microsoft Defender for Business, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1, and Microsoft Purview Information Protection with data loss prevention. This add-on does not replace any of that; it raises the identity and audit tiers above it.

When to take one half instead
If the requirement is only privileged access control, the Defender Suite alone covers it. If it is only audit retention, the Purview Suite alone covers it. Both are sold separately under the same base licence and cap, so the combined line should be a decision rather than a default.
Is this cheaper than buying both halves separately?
That is a pricing question and the answer sits on the quote, not on this page. What is fixed is the scope: this line carries both suites under one base licence requirement and one 300 seat cap.
Do I need Microsoft 365 Business Premium underneath?
Yes. Both halves require a Business Premium base licence on the same user, and the combined add-on is capped at 300 seats.
What is the single biggest thing this adds?
Microsoft Entra ID P2. It is what makes Identity Protection, risk-based Conditional Access and Privileged Identity Management available on a Business Premium tenant, none of which Business Premium carries on its own.
Should I take this or move to Microsoft 365 E5?
E5 removes the 300 user ceiling and brings the full enterprise layer including Defender for Endpoint Plan 2 and Defender for Office 365 Plan 2. This route keeps the tenant on Business Premium, so the comparison usually turns on headcount trajectory.
Can I take just one of the two suites?
Yes. Both are sold separately under the same base licence requirement and the same seat cap, so take the combined line only when both gaps need closing.
